If I had to choose the question patients ask me most often at DimAllure, it would be this one: how long do anti-wrinkle injections last? It is a sensible question. You are investing in the way you look, and you deserve a clear picture of when results appear, how long they hold, and when you should plan to return.
The honest answer is that results typically last three to four months. Within that window there is genuine individual variation, but the journey from treatment day to re-treatment follows a fairly predictable rhythm. In this guide I will walk you through that timeline month by month, explain what influences longevity, and describe how we plan re-treatment at our Wimpole Street clinic in Marylebone, within the Harley Street medical district.
A quick recap: how anti-wrinkle injections work
Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein to temporarily relax the small facial muscles responsible for creating expression lines. When you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows repeatedly over the years, the overlying skin creases and folds, and lines gradually deepen. By gently relaxing these overactive muscles, the skin above them smooths and softens. Existing lines become less visible, and new lines may be less likely to deepen.
The word to hold on to is temporarily. The effect is not permanent: muscle activity returns in time, and you remain in control of whether and when to treat again. For a full overview of the treatment and every area we treat, from forehead lines to jawline slimming, see our page on anti-wrinkle injections in London.
The timeline, month by month
Days 5 to 10: the first signs
Immediately after treatment there is very little to see. You may notice tiny red marks at the injection sites, but these typically fade within an hour or two, and most patients return to their normal activities straight away. The product needs time to take effect, so do not expect an instant change on the day itself.
Within two to three days, you may notice the treated muscles beginning to relax. Frowning or raising your eyebrows starts to feel slightly different, and the treated lines begin to soften.
Days 12 to 14: the full result
The full effect becomes visible at approximately ten to fourteen days. This is the point at which to judge your result, not before. Expression lines are noticeably softer, yet you can still express emotion and you still look like yourself. That balance is deliberate: I use a muscle-balance approach, treating with precision rather than blanket coverage, so that lines soften while your natural facial movement is preserved.
Every anti-wrinkle treatment at DimAllure includes a complimentary review appointment at two weeks. I use this appointment to assess how the treatment has settled and to make any fine adjustments if they are needed. It is a small step that makes a real difference to the quality and evenness of the final result.
Months 1 and 2: the settled phase
From around the two-week mark through to the end of month two, your result is at its most stable. The treated muscles stay relaxed, the skin above them remains smooth, and there is nothing you need to do to maintain the effect. Most patients tell me this is the period when friends comment that they look well rested, without being able to say why.
Month 3: movement begins to return
Because the injections relax the treated muscles temporarily, the effect does not last indefinitely. At some point around the third month, many patients notice movement beginning to return to the treated areas as the muscles regain activity. Results typically last three to four months in total, so this is an expected part of the cycle rather than a sign that anything has gone wrong.
Months 3 to 4: planning your next treatment
By month three to four, muscle activity has largely returned and lines slowly become more visible again. This is the typical re-treatment window, and most patients plan their next appointment around this point.
How often will I need re-treatment?
Most patients return every three to four months, which works out at three or four visits per year. There is also an encouraging longer-term pattern: many patients find that with regular treatments, the muscles gradually weaken over time, meaning results last progressively longer and less product is required. In other words, consistency tends to be rewarded.
What affects how long anti-wrinkle injections last?
Longevity is individual, and no responsible practitioner will promise you an exact number of weeks. These are the main factors I discuss with patients at consultation:
What does treatment cost?
Anti-wrinkle injections at DimAllure start from £150 for one area, £250 for two areas, and £350 for three areas, and every treatment includes the complimentary two-week review. Advanced treatments such as masseter and jawline slimming or the Nefertiti neck lift start from £350. You can see the full price list for every treatment, including packages that combine anti-wrinkle injections with skin treatments, on our pricing page.
Is this the right treatment for you?
Anti-wrinkle injections are suitable for most adults who want to soften expression lines and achieve a more relaxed, refreshed appearance. They are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with certain neuromuscular conditions, and I will always discuss contraindications with you before any treatment is agreed.
Every treatment at DimAllure begins with a face-to-face consultation. I assess your facial anatomy, discuss which areas concern you, and explain honestly what can be achieved and what cannot. If you are weighing up where anti-wrinkle injections fit within a broader plan for your skin, my guide to the best anti-ageing injectables for your 30s, 40s and 50s explains how I match treatments to each stage of the ageing process.
