Hyaluronic acid is a substance the body produces naturally, and one of its jobs is holding water in the tissue. Lips hold very little of it compared with the rest of the face, and they have no oil glands of their own, which is why they dry out and line more readily than the skin around them.
A lip booster places small amounts of soft, highly fluid hyaluronic acid into the lip tissue rather than along the border. The aim is hydration and quality rather than projection, so the lips look fresher and feel more comfortable while staying the size they already are.

The two share a core ingredient and very little else. Lip filler uses a firmer, structured gel placed deliberately to create shape, definition and volume. A lip booster uses a much more fluid preparation, spread through the tissue, to change how the lips feel and how the surface looks.
Put simply, filler changes the outline. A booster changes the condition. Some patients have both, at separate appointments, and some are far better suited to one than the other. That is a conversation for your consultation.

Treatment begins with an assessment of your lips and the surrounding skin. A numbing cream is applied first, as the lips are sensitive. The injections are shallow and placed across the lip body using a very fine needle, and the appointment takes around 30 minutes in total.
Small raised bumps immediately afterwards are normal and usually settle within a few hours as the product disperses. Mild swelling and occasional bruising can occur for 24 to 48 hours. Most patients return to their day straight away, although it is sensible to avoid make-up on the lips for the rest of the day.
Most patients have a course of 2 to 3 sessions, spaced around 4 weeks apart. Hydration improves after the first session, while the change in texture and fine lines builds gradually across the course. Results typically last 6 to 9 months, and many patients return for a single maintenance session twice a year.
Lip boosters tend to suit patients who want their lips to look well rather than different, patients who are wary of visible filler, and patients who already have lip filler and want to improve the quality of the tissue without adding more product.
They are not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is active infection or inflammation around the mouth. If you are prone to cold sores, tell Dima beforehand, because any injection into the lip can trigger an outbreak and this can usually be planned around.
